What is the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and why are you staying here?
The intensive care unit (ICU) is a special hospital department in which patients with life-threatening conditions are treated and monitored. It is also called the critical care unit (CCU) or intensive therapy unit (ITU). Patients with a severe critical illness are admitted to intensive care units in order to maintain vital functions, reduce mortality and prevent morbidity with specialised equipment.
